Today’s Rights for Gays Lesbians Today’s Rights for Gays Lesbians The state and federal laws for Gays and Lesbian are unfair and discriminatory. In today’s ever so changing world it’s hard to keep up with laws. Most of the laws are printed on a fine line, but the rights for homosexuals are blurred. With the topic being hot in the media it is hard to get the correct story. Two of the most important rights that get blurred are marriage and same sex adoption. Same sex marriage is only legal in one state in the US, Massachusetts. Other than Massachusetts only four other countries allow same sex marriage. The Netherlands, Canada, Belgium and Spain. [pic] It is unknown how many countries allow adoptions by same†¦show more content†¦It also seems as if this is a reenactment of back in the 60’s when people were so harsh towards people of color. Hopefully if gays and lesbians fight for years they will get the rights they deserve. Now for my personal beliefs on same sex marriage. I think everyone should have the right to marry the person they love regardless of age, color, gay or straight. We are all human beings; we shouldn’t be placed into categories based on who we love or what color our skin is. I know within the next 10 years there will be no laws banning same sex marriage. Same sex couples adopting is another thing lawmakers don’t look so kindly on. Lawmakers seem to think the child will be raised to be homosexual. This is not true. â€Å"..Studies show that children from same-sex households have no more emotional or behavioral problems than children of heterosexual parents† (Traves, Spring 2005.Vol.8, Iss. 3; pg. 17) I do not believe that most people against same sex marriage know or believe that particular study. Traves (2005) also said that, others even suggests that children with same-sex parents are more tolerant of diversity than their peers and are highly affectionate, responsive and protective of younger children.
